HEAVENLY STEM · 天干 8 OF 10
辛 · Yin Metal
xīn · 辛金 · the eighth heavenly stem
辛 xīn is the eighth of the ten heavenly stems in BaZi: Yin Metal, the stem of autumn and the West. The heavenly stems are the upper half of each pillar in a chart, and the stem of the day pillar is the Day Master, the person the chart is about. 辛 combines with 丙 into Water and clashes with 乙.
Refined, worked metal: jewellery, a needle, a fine blade. Where 庚 Yang Metal is ore and axes, 辛 is what the ore becomes after polishing. People with a 辛 Day Master tend to be precise, image-conscious and quietly proud of their standards.
Readings are interpretations. Different traditions describe the same stem differently, and what a stem means in a chart depends on the company it keeps: the month it sits in, the branch beneath it and the balance of the other elements.

Where you meet it
- As a Day Master, the stem of your day pillar: the person the chart is about.
- In any other pillar, where it is read through the Ten Gods relative to your Day Master.
- Hidden inside a branch: 辛 hides in 丑 Ox, Rooster and 戌 Dog.
In the app, tapping any 辛 in your chart opens this entry, with one line on what it is doing in your chart. That line needs your pillars, so it is not on this page.
Which stem is your Day Master?
One of these ten is the centre of your chart. The free chart tells you which.
