HEAVENLY STEM · 天干 5 OF 10
戊 · Yang Earth
wù · 戊土 · the fifth heavenly stem
戊 wù is the fifth of the ten heavenly stems in BaZi: Yang Earth, the stem of the turns between the seasons and the Centre. The heavenly stems are the upper half of each pillar in a chart, and the stem of the day pillar is the Day Master, the person the chart is about. 戊 combines with 癸 into Fire and has no stem clash.
The mountain: solid ground that holds everything else in place. Where 己 is a field, 戊 is the rock beneath it. People with a 戊 Day Master tend to be dependable, protective and hard to move.
Readings are interpretations. Different traditions describe the same stem differently, and what a stem means in a chart depends on the company it keeps: the month it sits in, the branch beneath it and the balance of the other elements.

Where you meet it
- As a Day Master, the stem of your day pillar: the person the chart is about.
- In any other pillar, where it is read through the Ten Gods relative to your Day Master.
- Hidden inside a branch: 戊 hides in 寅 Tiger, 辰 Dragon, 巳 Snake, Monkey and 戌 Dog.
In the app, tapping any 戊 in your chart opens this entry, with one line on what it is doing in your chart. That line needs your pillars, so it is not on this page.
